The Future Of no more

The forest of Skidmore lay in sulking silence until came a voice from behind a tree.
With heart a racing against a skank wind, my eyes shift from side to side and back again.
Then the voice whispered in a rasp once again; “quick, come quickly look, come see”.

The forest floor gave with each step made sending forth plumes of stench and decay.
“Over here” the voice cried again….”over here, just have a little look and see”.
Then hands moist and cold reach out and grabbed; my eyes wide open now violently scream.

Foul hot breath mingles with mine; bones for fingers grip and contort my startled face.
“LOOK said the voice…LOOK” it angrily said.
I did, I didn’t…I don’t know, but its eyes were cold and dead.

Once again the foulness of odour in the air did reek as he…it began to speak.
“I am tomorrow; I am the future of no more; I am the sum of eternities darkest night.
“I am you dear one, I am you in another day and time…Oh aint I such a pretty sight?”

My nausea quickly gave way to anger as I recanted the prophecy of the beast.
My spirit arose in fitting rage as I cursed the trees in the ancient groves.
Without fear I stared straight into his eyes; eyes that were so dead and cold.
I cursed heartily this most foul spirit as I tore away his grip from beneath.

The ground began to rumble; the trees turn unto ash and fell to the forest floor.

The sun now shines and the birds now sing; the forest is Skidmore is no more.
