My Little China

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

We took our cat “China” to the Vet today for his yearly shots. Also at the same time we will be boarding him while we take a magical journey in the morning…though I am afraid much of the magic is gone. I don’t know what happened, I don’t even know when…but this cat is no ordinary cat and believe me, we have had a bunch. From the time he was three weeks old and we rescued him from the thicket, this little kitty literally clawed his way into my heart. Everywhere I turn tonight I see him…I feel him and I miss him. God, I must seem hopeless.

My Little China

Soft is the patter across the kitchen floor.

Mellow brrrr brrr’s come loudly from the back door.

I sneak soft to the back of the room for him to greet.

And then like black lightning he is attacking my feet.

I reach down to playfully stroke his back.

He rolls over and with soft paws gives me a whack.

Then it’s off to the races for both he and I.

Off to the back, and in full run to the porch outside.

Sideways shuffles with back arched high.

Oh how he makes me laugh till I almost cry.

Yet now…now I silently weep.

I miss my cat so very bad; I almost think the magical trip can keep.

Now is this not the saddest tale that you have ever heard?

I mean I just don’t understand why I am with this cat so emotionally disturbed.

Rationalize all I may; self reassurance has made its escape.

I know most will not see it this way, but I am even like this with people who treat me with disdain. (I Love)

For there is something about life that is so precious to me.

There is something about love that is given unconditionally.

So think me a loon, that’s fine by me.

Just take care of all God’s creatures…even MY little kitty.

What a wonderful write my friend, it's wonderful how God's little creatures make their way into our hearts...my little Boomer, my terrier is lying beside me on the couch this morning. Last week she decided to take a little hike/hunting trip with my granddaughters beagle, it lasted until the next morning! I missed her by my feet that night...also put a bit of dread within my heart for I have had her for ten years! How many years is that in canine years? Enjoyed the write, reveals a tender heart and compassionate spirit!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

They truly can do that, and I don't think you're a loon, at all, my friend. Our latest little kitten, Valentina, has already managed to sneak into my old heart, and she makes me laugh, each and every day.

Have a good trip, and your Little China will be waiting for you, once more.

I wondered about Rufuz and a cat. I would have a cat but my China (3 yr old Golden Chow/Lab) is jealous. A beautiful ode to your China.

Allen,

God bless kitties, who purr their way into our hearts - I've had several. Friday, Garfield, Ankhsenamen ... how I miss them. :( Beautiful write, have a safe trip, know you're in my prayers.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

My neighbors have this cute little calico that always seems to come to see me when she hears my voice, her name Patches...she and I have clicked since first we met, her having a bad first year or so, with a bratty little kid that poked at her and pulled her tail, etc...But for some reason she sure has attached herself to me...(fortunately Rufuz doesn't know)...Ed

I like little kitties, i truly do, I just put up a front so the other dogs in the world don't know how they and I just seem to get along...Rufuz (w00f) (China will love seein' you when you get home, so you better bring her all kinds of good stuff to eat and play with...)
