The Open Sea

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I dedicate this to my wife Leah for her powerful and unwavering faith. She has faith like no other and I love her more than I think she will ever, ever know.

Poem Artwork

The Open Sea

She stares with dreamy eyes across the open sea.

She remembers all the soft times the ocean set her free.

Gulls squawk; the gentle wind whispers her name.

Affirmation by faith strokes her hearts tender flame.

She closes her warm eyes now to the open sea.

With hands raised to heaven she reaches out to skies so blue.

She praises God for all things and knows His love is true .

The wind rises now to a tempest blow.

The surf pounds sharply the sandy shore.

The gulls grow quite and softly land.

The skies split asunder revealing the Son of Man.

She falls slowly to her knees.

She bares witness to the power of God.

Her soul becomes as that of fire.

And then she knows that she knows…

Her healing has come to her hearts desire.

The wind then stops.

The surf stills like glass.

She opens again her eyes to the sea.

Knowing the storm in her life has passed.

This is a beautiful tribute to Leah, Allen. I'm relying on my own faith, right now, for comfort as I struggle with my Dad's recent passing. Somehow, just knowing he isn't suffering any longer is comforting, though going through the day to day challenges of getting on with life is hard.

Thanks for sharing this poem,
Jill

All we need is faith, the size of a mustard seed, to move mountains (and oceans) - beautiful testimony in verse, Allen, learn from your Leah. She's got it right. :) Well done!

(((HUGS))), love and continued prayer, Karla.
