So Little Compassion

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

The AOL news just recently made fun of this poor unfortunate soul who they dubbed the “Sleeping Gun” because he was caught by the police sleeping on the merchandise he pilfered from an outside storage area of some super department store chain. True it is that he should not have stolen, but even true r it is of our lack of compassion. This fellow needs help for it is obvious that he has no place to call home. Yes…he may have brought this upon himself or he could very well be like the millions of people who are just one or two paychecks away from being in the same situation. We need to wake up and put our morals and values where they should be…I wonder how many people looked at this picture and just laughed it off? I also wonder how many people took but a moment of their time to just simply offer a prayer…I wonder………

Poem Artwork

I wonder where the love has gone.

I wonder if it all has passed us by.

I wonder, oh I wonder why.

To love another as oneself can be quite the game to play.

I mean to really be a neighbor or friend who will help in anyway.

Oh I wonder where the love has gone, has it really passed us by.

Are we such a selfish lot that we can’t even wonder why.

This poor man is some mamas child; some sisters brother.

He is lost; confused; he is down in out and in need of another.

Yet many see him as a blight; an eyesore who stinks up their day.

However I see him as a human being who has lost his soul along the way.

So why should we laugh at him and make ungodly fun?

Should not we reach down and lift him up instead of calling him a bum?

Oh little compassion has this most frightful self centered world.

So little compassion in not giving our love…oh so little compassion.

Many years ago I was where he is now & it would not take much for me to be there again...I hope he gets and accepts the help he needs...Ed

This world has become a selfish, business only thriving nation. There is no humanity any more.. Mankind better wake up, this cannot continue or we will be heading for a mass destruction in order to start anew.

Sorry, this makes me so angry that someone would be so down and out and people would post this on the internet and make jokes about it. Ridiculous...Get the man a shelter and some food...

Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

J. Allen,
This poem and the pic touches my heart deeply. I have many times felt that compassion has gone out with the times. I thank God every day for my home, my bed to sleep in, a little food on the table. So many don't have that. This poor man needs our prayers and a helping hand, not to be made fun of. I've also wrote about the homeless, they are always in my prayers. Bless you for writing this and calling our attention to a problem that goes on everywhere, even the smallest of towns. May God bless them all.

Blessings my friend,
~Linda

The world is truly growing more cold hearted every day now it seems. Not a good sign at all.

We should be compassionate to our fellow men. Even beggers need prayers and the homeless need our prayers still. They cannot help they have gone astray. Noone is too compassionate nowaday, I don't know even why, everyone out for theirselves I suppose. I would not laught at this photo. It is so sad.

God help us!! TRAGIC!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

Powerful wake up call you've penned, J. Allen; bravo!

Allen,

You said it so perfectly in your opening monologue: "... or he could very well be like the millions of people who are just one or two paychecks away from being in the same situation. ..."

Where has the compassion gone? 'And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.' (Matthew 24:12) We're seeing it, Brother: no one gives a rip unless it satisfies their own agenda or greed.

I pray I never become this callous, this heartless. A powerful reminder, a reach of love, compassion and understanding in empathetic lines; very well penned.

((((HUGS)))) love and continued prayer, Karla. *tears*
