The Empty Vessel

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

My Words to you...
I returned to work today for the first time in eight weeks. There was no one to kiss goodbye, no one to call when I got my break and alas…only silence when I returned home, no one to tell about my day. Therefore if you have someone to kiss; someone to call and just say hi…do it now and do it often for you never know when it will be the last time.

The Empty Vessel

I left for work today at my usual time; I longed to once again kiss you goodbye.

I starred blankly at the empty doorway and saw you standing there in my mind.

I blew you our trademark kiss; I dropped my head and began to cry.

So empty do I feel now that the shock of your leaving has slowly eroded away.

I seek solace; I seek peace of mind, but what I truly want is to have you back in my day.

Intellectually I know that this will never be.

So sweet Jesus in heaven; help me now in this grief.

I guess some now think of me as being close to the edge of being mad.

I knew that supper would not be waiting tonight as on most days you always had.

So I stopped at one of our favorite places and made sure to wipe down your seat.

I even asked the blessing the way we always do; blew you a kiss and said lets eat.

What am I doing I thought…..I know that you are no longer here.

Is this normal? or is there something deeper within my fear.

I just miss you so much; I just long for your touch.

Sleep sweet my angel and know that I shall see you soon.

Love You Leah…always

Allen, you have great courage and still have a heartful of love as you share your innermost feelings. One day at a time, God will give the grace you need.

Allen, I know your grief, I lost my daughter's boyfriend (he was killed in a car accident two years ago at age 35) He was like a son to me, I know your grief, I feel it, and relive it with you. I cannot offer words to make this easier, only my love, and light sent to you for a touch of sanity to come to your life. It does get better, it gets easier eventually, but the journey is very difficult and that I can attest to from personal experience. There isn't a moment that goes by that I don't think of Matthew, and now though, two years after his departure, I can smile a bit when I think of him. He is laid next to his mother and father now, and he is at peace. I know his spirit is with me and my daughter, we feel him all the time, and it is comforting. You will get to this point, and you will live on, Allen, with Leah's spirit to guide and heal your's.
In peace, love, and angel light,
Amber "V"

One persons normality is anothers insanity...you are in the first stages of grief dear friend & that can be an insanity all its own...
There are grief groups and there is your church that you know can help...just writing about your pain, may not be enough, TALK ABOUT IT, CRY ABOUT IT, SCREAM ABOUT IT, PRAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS...you take care of you...& thank you for what you said on my poem about God...you are not supposed to be helping me, I am supposed to be helping you...As always, Find Peace...Ed

Oh, Allen, you make me cry with this one! There are so much sadness and longings. It just isn't easy to go through this phase. I know I've been there too when my dad passed away.

Nothing will ever be the same, but you've just got to heal one day at a time. I know I can say a lot of prayers for you, but in your heart you still miss Leah. There is no easy way, except you just have to walk through this phase. Perhaps having some friends around you might help to ease your pain. Perhaps your brother, or your sister might come to stay with you so you can relay your fond memories? Sometimes, having someone to talk might make a difference in your healing process. Wishing you well.

J.Allen,
I'm crying buckets here, this poem is your heart, plain and simple. God bless you dear man, may he ease your grief, give you strength, hold your hand. What you said before the poem is right on. So many husband take their wives for granted. Many should read some of your poems about your precious Leah. They may do some serious thinking. God bless you.

Many blessings,
~Linda

Your heartache is so evident and rightfully so. It takes time for the healing and you have only begun. Leah is not gone, she is forever with you in spirit, everything you touch, see, all around you she is to offer comfort. Now she watches from above, but by your side she will always be. Always to remain in my thoughts and prayers....

God bless you,

Karen

Through tear-filled eyes, I am trying to write. Please know that you are in my prayers. You will see her when the time is right, and never will you feel such sadness.

May God's love lighten your load and comfort you in your sadness. God bless you. Kathy

Allen,

There are different stages of grief. Shock; denial; anger; sadness; and finally, acceptance. No particular pattern. I know, still grieving my big, strong Daddy. Ain't easy: some days I'm going along, think I'm doing great, the next, a huge wind of grief collapses my sails. It's going to take time. Do what feels right for you. Anyone says any different, they don't know.

For now, the rituals are comforting. Keep doing them. Most of all, keep her memory alive, and pray like thunder: He will get you through. After all, He loved the world so much, He gave His Only Begotten Son ... you know? HE knows.

Know you're in my heart, my thoughts, especially in my prayer as you go through this. You are not alone. The Lord's there, I'm here: if you need to bounce, tell me.

Powerfully penned return to "normalcy": whatever "normal" is. Well done.

(((((((HUGS))))))) and much love, Karla.
