Part seven

My heart was once again pounding with excitement as I drew near to the seat she was sitting. Her blue eyes sparkled in the morning light and I was completely oblivious to the fact that there were even other people on the bus. As I sat down beside her and I could smell the freshness of her morning bath on her skin; fresh like a spring rain. Before I could ask her what had happened that day we were to meet at the willow she began by telling me what had transpired after she had let after our morning coffee together. She went on to tell me that she did not get the job at the complex where I work and had sent her strait away to another job placement on the other side of town. She said that she had wanted to try and get in touch with me and then blushed and lightly giggled when she said that she did not even know my last name. I started to say that she could have called the place where I worked and just asked to speak to Allen and they would have connected her to the maintenance shop, but I had second thoughts on that and just decided to drop it. She was here now and that was all that mattered to me.

So I asked, if you are working on the other side of town what are you doing on this bus route? She looked up at me rather sheepishly, (a look that I would soon come to adore) and she simply said “I wanted to see you again and this was the only way I knew how, I said a prayer before I left this morning and told God…I said God, do you remember that sweet man I met last week? Well lord, if it is your will, then let him be at that same bus stop and let him be glad to see me. Allen, are you glad to see me?” I am glad to see you.”

I answered her in an almost reverent tone and told her that when I heard her voice call my name today that it was if God had breathed new life into my soul and then I said something that sent shockwaves down my spine…I looked her straight in the eye, oh those sweet beautiful blue eyes and I said…”Leah, I LOVE YOU” I could hardly believe I said that and wished at once I could pull the words from the air before they reached her ears. I sat there with a frightened school boy look on my face and waited for a normal reaction like “YOU WHAT”…but the response I received was not what I expected. She then reached over and clutched her small hand in mine and with soft tears in her eyes said “Allen, I love you too; that is why I am here because I love you. I know that this is not what most would see as being normal Allen, but the minute I saw you I knew in my heart that I would love you. Don’t ask me how, or why, it’s just something I knew.”

I felt at once a wave of nausea come over me, not sick in the sense of being sick, but it was if a million butterflies were trapped in my stomach and were trying to escape. I squeezed her hand and she squeezed mine back…So you did miss me she said smiling.”

Yes I missed you, I even went home that night and wrote a poem about you and our first meeting”…You wrote a poem about me she chirped…can I hear it…do you have it with you?

Well Leah…It just so happened after I had written it I had tucked it my wallet to give to you the next day, but since you didn’t show up I threw it away.” (I was just kidding) , but when I saw the look cross her face I at once apologized and told her that I was just funning around and that I still had it in my wallet”…I wish I had not said that because of the sad look she gave me when she thought that I thought so little of it. She sat there silent for a moment and the smiled once more and said will you read it to me now?”

I would read you “War & Peace” from cover to cover if you want me to…of course I’ll read it, but mind you it’s not really all that good, it is just some thoughts that came to me as I was sitting on my bed that night wondering what had happened to you…well here goes.

**** note to readers…this is not the actual poem as it is long gone, but it is as close as I can remember it to be***

Skies sweet blue from fresh autumn’s early chill.

Chance meeting of fair lady come by God’s will.

Days afore thee lay lost unto the weary night.

Grace be found in your sweet eyes on mornings light.

After I had finished reading I paused waiting for her reply that that it was OK, or that it was sweet, but instead several hot tears like liquid pools of love formed in the corners of her eyes. She then pulled my hand to her heart and gently said…do you feel this heart of mine? Do you feel it beat? It beats in love for you Allen…that was the most beautiful piece of poetry I have ever heard because it came from your heart. I knew I was right when I said to myself that I could love you…Allen, you are so beautiful

It was now I who now had tears in my eyes. God, I never thought my heart could feel this way. I then slowly pulled my hand and her hand from her breast and gently kissed her fingers…the bus now slowed and came to a stop, but not for a traffic light, but for me to exit… yet I could not leave for I was set in the stones of desire for my fair lady…Leah.

It was love at first sight for you two. I enjoyed this portion and she is such a loving little girl here and so innocent. She tells you right out what she thinks of you. I guess she did that to people all her life too. She was very lucky to have met you and the story must go on before I can comment more. I do not want to say the wrong thing and guess at it. truly marvelous writing here.

Do meetings like this actually happen...must be the south, as in NJ if that same thing happened, I think the woman would have jumped up and ran...you were a lucky man...Ed
