I Remember...

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

The above photo is one of Leah just one minute before my vicious dog jumped in her lap and started licking her face…I tried to find that photo but can’t locate it. By the time this picture was taken my vicious dog had already been tamed with just a few words of baby talk had turned into a sweet little pet and would run up and kiss anyone…it was unbelievable how my dog took to her, but then again, animals are pretty good at knowing the heart. That was the way it was with Leah…seemed like everyone wanted to kiss her.

I Remember

I remember the very last time I kissed your still and unmoving lips.

I remember those final minutes that now come in the night on silent clips.

I recall telling the nurse to leave the room as I cleaned your beautiful but ravaged body one last time.

I remember it all like it was today…It shall forever be part of my heart and mind.

I remember the sweetness of our first date with the clarity that I remember our last.

I have been urged by others to move forward and try not to remember the past.

So I sought help today and I cried enough rivers to fill the entire Great Lakes.

They told me that it was not my fault that you died and that your death I would have to soon face.

But I cannot forget, for it is now of whom I am and who I have so effortlessly become.

These are our memories, both good and bad, but always my darling; they were shared in genuine agape love.

So I can’t forget for I remember so much of our life together and I always remember how you would make me smile.

So forgive me my friends and counselors too if I linger with my precious memories for just a little while.

                           UUUUUUUUUUUU RRR

For you see I remember the first time that I brought you over to my quaint little house on the hill.

I remember telling you about my vicious dog and how to make sure you look out still.

I recall my heart sinking when you opened up the door and there he was with teeth showing standing on all fours.

And I remember to this day exactly what you said “oh ain’t he cute…are you mamas bad boy….you just want to play catch the girl at the door.”

So now I sit in this darkness and I play these our times over and over in my mind.

I try to think what I would change if I could and it keeps coming back NOTHING, for our love was meant for all time.

For in purest love from eyes so blue you gave me the best twenty two years of my life.

And I will always…I mean always remember that I was so happy to call you my wife.

So Leah… oh Leah do you remember our promise that we made? That last one on the last hour when your breaths were full of labor and pain?

Just know this as you sit with our heavenly Father above.

I shall see you again darling… but in His time…I love you so much and would with joy had taken on your pain….now I miss you so much…but forever shall our hearts twain in the blessed glory of eternal love.

Oh what a loving and beautiful poem my friend...you've moved me to tears with the heartfelt love, gratitude, and true emotion of what love really is. Not many today can testify of such a wonderful fulfilling life with their partner as you, so I say cherish the memories, recall them and keep them alive until you are ready to move forward. No one knows our heart like we do...My heart and prayers are with you. As Karla said, you honor Leah with your beautiful words, memories, and respect.
Blessings from Ky.

Your love for her comes through so clearly in your poetry. It sounds like you had the kind of marriage that so many people long for. God bless.

I just know and feel for you the rough time you are still having. Grieving takes tiem. Do you know last week I wanted to be with My Tom in Heaven. I cried and cried again and was sad and not myself and just seen him having such a good time in heaven, while on earth here it is a stuggle with things. But our anniversary passed again, and now am on the way to mending my broken heart and carrying on with life. It isn't easy and won't be. I don't want to live many years without him. It's too hard.

Heartfelt and deeply felt pain well up in these compelling words; know you are ever in my thoughts/prayers. Continue to hang on these memories and continue to seek the Lord in your time of sadness; He will sustain and comfort you! And know you are very much loved here!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <
