It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
I listened to the call that fell like ice upon a crazy and fragile heart.
I thought about family gatherings and how excited Leah was from the start.
She was always like a kid in a candy store with two nickels shiny and new.
And tonight Leah…I just had the first realization that they would be without you.
I wonder now baby, should I even bother to put up our Christmas tree?
I remember how your eyes would glisten and glow as each ornament would cling.
I remember the carol “It Came upon A Midnight Clear” that for me you would always sing.
Do you remember Leah our first Christmas together when we had no wood for the stove?
Do you remember how we cuddled each other to stave off the bitter cold?
Do you remember that little skinny tree that I went out and dug up in the woods?
We couldn’t afford a real one and how I apologized, but you just smiled and told me that this Christmas that little tree was so beautiful and that you understood.
Leah, I wish your mother had not of called and got me to thinking this way.
Yet it was not her fault for eventually it would have hit me one day.
The sad thing is that I will miss you sparkling eyes when my present I spring on you.
Just know this my love…that you now have the greatest gift of all and that is you are with Jesus and He is with you.
I love you so much baby and Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas in heaven
