The Empty Chair

Strange and totally queer was this Thanksgiving day.

The table was filled with all of the usual delectable fare.

Only you were missing as I sat next to your empty chair.

Others laughed and talked and pretended not to see.

Yet I knew that they were aware that you were not next to me.

No one even mentioned you at all by your name.

I guess they were uncomfortable in that it was not the same.

Gone was your sweet laughter that always filled the room.

Gone was the way your words lifted any lingering gloom.

That was just your way; it was Leah the nature in which you were made.

When I first arrived I went by habit to my usual seat.

I arranged your silver and straightened out the wrinkles in your chair.

Then it hit me; I was alone in a room full of people and you weren’t there.

Happy first Thanksgiving in Heaven my love…

Oh how I missed your touch.

Another holiday gotten through and many more to get through over the years. You will do it and thanks for sharing your feelings about those holidays, as we do need to know others are in our shoes too and missing their loved ones. Lois C.

tough times in this season--you will fill your days though you miss leah and you will live like it matters because it does

(((((Allen))))),

That, to me, is the saddest thing of all ... to have people around who didn't care to mention your loss ... I can't imagine. It's the only thing on your mind, and I think they should have acknowledged her memory, your loss ... I'm so sorry. If you need me, I'm here ...

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, Karla. *tears*

As always .... you know that since Leah has gone...your work is even more rich than ever... There is a blessing here that you haven't even realized...one that she has led your fingers to write these poignant and precious words...Words that many can share, because as you write for yourself; the same words touch us in our own lives... I speak for me...yet I know that there will be many who feel as I do.. Thank you God for Jim...and Leah... happy thanksgiving... lindalaw

This was a beautiful write. It was a wonderful description of the love you miss and it was sad. Yet, on this Thanksgiving Day you can be thankful you had her.
God Bless,

This first year must be difficult for you. I hope that soon good memories will replace the grief. We always have one empty chair and place setting at our table for all those who have gone before us. I think it's a good tradition and somehow gives us a sense that they're with us if only in spirit. May God bless you and bring you peace poet.

Ever since my mother passed, Thanksgiving didn't seem right...her signature dishes and her lining us up to spank the turkey, no, nothing seemed right..
Then, after about three Thanksgivings later, I noticed how, out loud, what mom would say about now, or something she would do.
I would refresh her memories with the family!
Yes, it will always be different,J. Allen, but keeping her about the table, one day, will come...shoot, Leah will make sure of it! :)

God Bless you and Happy, Happy Thanksgiving!
Love and Peace~
