Smiles In The Morning

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

A personal request…for all those that signed the guest book of Rhonda’s dedication page to Leah…would you please do so again as when she changed servers all the manes were lost and I would like to include this list in the final chapter of my book about Leah and her faith in her losing battle with cancer…it can be found at Allen & Leah’s love story at the link at the bottom of the poem…I would greatly appreciate it so much.

Smiles In The Morning

Dawn greets me with a smile and hot morning coffee in my hand.

My mind wanders through the morning rays and I think of distant lands.

It’s a sweetness that Dawn brings; a smile seen but never but in heart heard.

Alas the light has banished the fearful lonely night; not by sound but word,

Two chairs now sit alone as the waves rush against the distant shore.

Someday I wish; I hope I pray that empty they may be no more.

If they be filled not but for a season, if not but for the simple pleasure of a day.

I will continue for as long as this sun shall shine to smile back at Dawn in a new way.

I bristle now as the cold wet winds from the north fiercely blow.

Yet for the moment it is bearable as my heart and mind grows.

Go south young man, go further south I heard my spirit say.

Enjoy the smiles that each Dawn doth bring your way.

I shall someday…I shall, but for this moment in this time;

I am made happy with the silent smiles on the written line.

Oh smiles in the morning brought by Dawn of a new day.

I am glad…and I am pleased even though each morning seems so far away.
