Ed Matlack Was Right

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Ed Matlack was correct when he said that to stop writing would be a mistake and it was. The emotions that I penned here kept me from holding it all in and when I thought that I should stop…it almost did me in…I have to write…I really do.

Poem Artwork

To Live By The Word…to Die Without It

Oh where is the sweet sleep that once filled my soul?

Sleep so soft the sleep in presence; nourishing both body and soul.

I escape the night with eyes wide open and a mind full awake.

And in by day I push this worn body past the point of break.

I tried not to write of the woes that afflict this burdened heart.

Yet by not penning these emotions I was tearing myself apart.

I even thought last night that of my heart that I just loved too much.

Nay, this is not the case for we can never love enough when we follow God’s touch.

So to pen once more these things shall I.

To pen glimpses of my soul as it fights to survive.

Oh these things which sail like ships across my hearts open sea.

These things wrought of true love given most honest and tenderly.

I just stumbled upon your site and have to say that your love and strength touched my heart.... It's nice to see you back.... Writing for many is a way to escape.... share feelings and vent when we need to. I am new here; but, consider you and Leah that perfect love story that we all want to write.... Good luck.... Happy Holidays!

It's shocking to know my brother Ed was right about something - but he was. Write on, my friend, and that work you're doing for the animal rescue foundation is marvelous, too.
