Poem Artwork

A Day Of Flowers

I drove aimlessly around for hours this gray and dismal Valentines Day.

With my spirits hanging as low as the clouds above I soon spied a tuft or two of bright yellow in a distant field and I could hear so clearly my departed Leah say.

“Look DA, its daffy-dills…oh pretty, pretty…spring is on its way.”

In days gone by; in the many years of what was a truly wonderful past.

I would have pulled over the car and got out to clip Leah a sprig or two.

Yet today I just stopped and looked from afar at the gray backdrop and yellow hue.

Ten minutes went, maybe twenty, for I don’t truly know, I just sat in remembrance.

I stared at the beauty of the yellow “Daffy-Dills” and thought about life and chance.

These thoughts I pen tonight, I pen not in the sadness that has for so long consumed my mind.

Yet they are penned now in some sort of happy / sad recollection of another day in time.

Should not this heart of mine ponder the fondness, not sadness of once upon a time?

Perchance should I see the sun rise yet still another day and in happy recollection hear my Leah once again so sweetly say…

”Good morning world and I thank you Lord God for this day”?

So where do I stand now in this journey of what once was and what the unknown future brings?

Many are the things to consider as I step out in uncertain faith to build new dreams.

I say uncertain for it has been so long since I have made any journey alone.

Once again the rain began to fall and I eased my car back into the road and headed home.

I drove two more miles, another side road, another country roads winding way.

I then say a bush we call a “breath of spring” and once again I heard my Leah say…

Oh Look Da….its a breath of spring….isn’t God good In every way”?

This time I did not stop as I would have done so many times in the past.

For I realized if not but for just this day sweet memories are meant to last

I am kept so busy lately with bad things and good things and many outings with my family members that the grief is lessoning some. It will never go away Tom's memory but it is slowly getting better when I thought it never would. Things keep moving along, but I do keep him in mind always but keeping busy as you also do along the roadway of life helps tremendously.
