Little Girl Dying

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

This poem was developed from my afternoon visit today to hospice where I talked with an incredible young girl of ten who had a better grasp on life than most adults. She told me about her fears as I sat and listened, but her fears were not for herself…but others. Should we not all be so wise….

Little Girl Dying

The tired moon slept somberly beneath the soft blanket of stars.

A little girl with a handful of nothing and a heart full of hope-

Softly in the silence of a dreamy night prays about a land bright and afar.

She sees Jesus in a picture frame that hangs on a slender nail above her bed.

And she whispers her heart to a God she can’t see that was raised from the dead.

She listens in the stony silence, and hears nothing but the soft beat of hear heart.

The light in the hallway through the half cracked door pierced the darkness into her room.

She imagined the light to be a ladder that stretched all the way to heaven.

And she thought in her young heart, that ladder she would climb soon.

Though she was only ten, she knew her time was near, yet she had no fear.

Her hair had fallen out from the medicine they had shot into her veins.

She wept, but not for herself, but for her mom who was not under crimsons stain.

I am ready to leave…she whispered to me…as soon…as soon as my mom believes.

so glad you use hospice still and can get in touch with the dying.
This little girl was so brave, but she also knew her savior, so young an age, and so adultlike in her thinking so.

HOW TRUE GOD'S WORD IS! IF WE WANT TO SEE HIS FACE WE NEED THE HEART...THE HUMBLE FAITH OF A CHILD...THAT PURE, INNOCENT, UNDAUNTED TRUST. THIS IS A PROFOUND MESSAGE OF ENCOURAGEMENT...THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT. BLESSINGS. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

You capture the true feeling of love when one abandons oneself and thinks only of others their love can save or help. Most moving and inspirational.

Heart tugging write; powerful! Well done; we can learn from those who are sick or dying or those who have special needs: they have a lot more faith than most adults!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Give that little angel (((HUGS))) from me next time you see her and tell her I will keep her and her family in my prayers/thoughts!

Allen, this is SO touching! What faith that little girl has. I could learn much from her. I think many people could. I will pray for her tonight.

With Love,
Cindy

If a child can grasp this, why can't we grown adults "get it"? The faith of a child - may her prayers be answered. Beautifully penned poignancy, Allen, if you see that little one again, give her a (((HUG))) from me. Well done.

(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla.
