I Can Only Imagine

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Sis days left to what would have been our 24th wedding anniversary… Twenty days until I kissed her our last good bye on this earth…but there is coming a day in which…I CAN ONLY IMAGINE

I Can Only Imagine

I feel the approaching silence as the last day soon draws nigh

To the time of what once was, but is to be nevermore.

To my shame, I have fallen from grace against my hearts weary sigh.

I have lost my way in effort to move past the pain, which this heart of mine bore.

I chased only dreams built only on the desire to feel alive again once more

Yet in doing so, I walked ever further from the Father, and heavens open door.

I was wrong in this, and to this my heart, I feel such remorse and shame.

My intentions were pure, for I only wanted to remember nothing but her name.

But as the days of this summer softly fade on the coming autumns shadowy call.

I realize…Oh God I realize, that I had lied to myself in wanting to move on.

For I still see her in a sunset, I see her in my hearts mind upon every mornings rise.

I still love her, and I guess I always will until we meet once again in another time.

I can only imagine…

Your remembrances are lovely, and remind each of us of what is to come some day. Remember that grief is a journey and ebbs and flows like the sea.

Our imaginations can take us to many places; some sad, some glorious as is your's, Al, in this poem. Keep your love close and forever...

Amber has much wisdom and perception here, Allen. I can only equate this to my mother's passing just three years' ago, and I imagine for a dearly-loved spouse it is magnified and then some. We know that day by day we get further from "the event" and yet, approaching that first anniversary, the days drag slower and slower until it seems like we are reliving the final episode of our loved one's life afresh, as if it just happened. And yes, we DO very much chase dreams to deflect from the pain of our experienceed realities. It seems there are no short-cuts unless we choose denial as an option, but that's not a healthy choice in the longterm. I have been so moved in your poem here by the depth of feeling in this bond, which will forever endure. And the honesty with which you face up to how things are and have been. But the beauty of your love will continue to be displayed as an on-going energy that will underpin all that you seek to yet become, as your grief outworks and refines into other facets of your being. Time is one continuum, past, present and future... yet our bodies (unlike our spirits) can only exist in just one temporary dimension. Be kind to your body and mind and let your soul and spirit rejoice in a perpetual togetherness that will never be diminished or denied. This love is altogether beautiful and I am so sorry for your untimely loss. Love and prayers, Allen, Kate xx

Allen, you still have so much more to travel. It takes so long to begin to live again. My daughter is finally on the road to recovery and it has been three years since her soul mate passed on the the next life. Keep on writing and nurturing your soul, you will do better and better each day. Wonderful heartfelt poem.
Peace, love, and light,

I've never lost a spouse, but have lost a son, and while I can understand that it must be painful, I think you need to live your life to its fullest and to move ahead....I'm thinking that's what Leah would have wanted.

(((Allen))),

It's not easy to move on when the love of your life is no longer here - but she is, in the sunsets, in the beauty surrounding you, in the love you have for her and others - you express your loss in powerful lines. You remain in my thoughts and prayers -

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
