Poem Artwork

On The Back Deck With Childhood Dreams.

Sweet summer smells mingle on the back deck with childhood dreams.

Childlike wonderment steals away at my heart to hope which clings.

A multitude of frogs sing from a nearby pond calling out into the night.

I stare in silence at the full moon above melting like a shadow by its soft light.

Jasmine and honeysuckle mix with the tiny droplets of sweet summers sweat.

The air is thick and still; leaves motionless against the backdrop of the night sky.

I feel so much as I recall those childhood dreams and I reason not to ponder why.

For life is ever evolving; our hope revolving, ever constant of what tomorrow may bring.

We labor often in vain of our allotted days under the sun, yet the night still comes, and the frogs sing.

Peace be now to this soul; joy unspeakable I claim amidst the darkness of this summer’s night and what it brings.

Beneath the stars; under the pale shadow of the moon, I live my life on the back deck of childhood dreams.

With sweet memories like that it's easy to see how keeping those in the back of your mind is a great source of strength to draw from on. Very well written.
