Ninety- Five And Roasting Alive

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

With no air at work, and when it’s outside 95, the in the plant that I work it is 125. My relief in the past was to walk into my home and feel the cool airs blast. Now I look at the picture I took of a rare Southern snow, oh how I long to feel its coolness from head to toe.

Ninety- Five And Roasting Alive

Summer in the South is beautiful, yet her heat can drop you dead.

Normal is temperatures in the mid 90s and the humidity is so high.

Without the blessing of air conditioners, folks shrivel up and die.

Ever since the Memorial Day flood came which came our way.

The heat has taken its toll as we swelter both night and day.

My basement wall still leans and my air unit lies in ruins.

I pray for relief soon lest I turn to dust and drift forever with the dunes.

Oh yes, I can relate to that.
God bless and keep cool, if you can.

Yes and you can keep that heat down there, PLEASE...why not buy at least one window unit or maybe two, one for the bedroom and one for the living room, they are not very expensive anymore and they are much more efficient than they used to be...my rear roof air died and that is in the thousand dollar range to replace...but we gotta have a/c, though what did they do when there wasn't any...?
