The Deserts Of Life
I walk through a desert; I weep for dried stumps that were once trees.
The earth beneath my feet is hot, yet cold as I fall in exhaustion to my knees.
I stare into the blazing sun; I seek shelter, yet I find that there is none.
I cast my eyes unto the East and I look for the peace of the gentle sea.
Sand from once fertile ground now stings my skin and eyes.
Mile upon mile; footprint upon footprint in the sand, and I question if I shall survive.
It seems to me now that the desert is unique, and has its own name.
Solitaire is its existence as it hides the secrets of the past that once came.
The sun still stares with a hot coldness upon the burnt lines of my face.
One foot in front of the other I march on to the song in my mind, “Amazing Grace”
Hours slip into days and of the soft shifting sand crawl into weeks.
I look down into the dead valley below and question the reason of me.
I come now upon a cracked bed of mud which once did flow a river of life.
With my lips now cracked; my heart is grown weary of the deserts strife.
I walk on, I shall survive the wasteland of yesterday shall not consume my life.
For I march ever forward; I refuse to exhume the past.
My heart and soul even in this desert shall fulfill all my dreams at last.
For greater is He which lives in Me.
