An Introspection of Similes

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

From the deck of my life, I watched the leaves as they gently fell. Caught were these points of reflection in the pastel winds of approaching change. If we were but take the time to look; the time to ponder, then we shall relate to the seasons of our life as one with the world that the Lord God has made. Many fear change, much fear the fall and the approaching winter of our days. Yet fear not this season, for through the spirit of Christ Jesus we bloom again on another shore. Yeah, only remember to love all the cycles that this life may bring, and to love one another as God so loves us. Life is indeed good, but God in our lives is even better.

An Introspection of Similes

In the beginning of my days,

I was as the budding leaf on the trees of spring.

Fresh – New – Unblemished,

A soft tender light green…

Time marched on and boldly into the days of my summer.

Wrought were these days with storms which raged on –

Shaping my future.

For the wind of change never ceased as I lost many a friend along the way—

Yet I still did cling to the wonderment of my spring.

Now here abide I against the backdrop of an October blue sky.

My pale baby green soul has long been gone,

My summer colors once so dark and strong begin to fade.

I teeter now on the limbs of time,

I know that I live now in the fall of my years. –

I know even more as the reality of winter nears.

Soon I, the once bright green leaf will join my brothers and sisters

To whit I shall cease.

Yet I fear not this cycle of change,

For I am more than just a leaf,

I am His glory

I am in Him by more than name…

And you captured this point well, dear friend.
I too am in the autumn of my life and I know my next spring will be with my Master for eternity but for now I cherish each season of the year and each year of my life.
Beautiful work here.
God bless,
Lew
