Doing Battle

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Recent health events trigger much introspection on sleepless nights as a full moon glides across the open deck of my home. To say I am not concerned would be a lie. I ponder on the past and upon eyes that saw much pain. I pray silently that my fate not be the same. Negative emotions do battle with my hearts positive tune as I lie awake and watch the dying of the moon. I resolve that I shall overcome by His everlasting grace.

Doing Battle

Little is the sleep of those wrought of heavy mind.

Flagstones line the darkness of this ancients walk in time.

Positive emotions do constant battle with negative scenes.

Hope flutters within the soul as darkness attempts to steal tomorrow’s dreams.

Death is a sleeping visage that doth ever creep.

Children’s children amongst this unknowingly weep.

Darkness often rules in placid lives unknown.

Laughter glances on whitewashed dreams and are soon gone.

The light shines; the aroma hopes gingerly climbs.

Ready, oh ever ready the question in spirit looms.

Peace be still my soul for tomorrow is mine, tomorrow is held on angel wings in forever’s eternal time.

Very well written and I can identify. I used to fight with it that way but now I have learned to feel the wonderful emotion of Gratitude as I proclaim, "Thank you Lord for you have seen fit to grant me another day. I will make the most of it.
God bless you Allen.

Keep fighting, Allen; know you remain in my thoughts and prayers! I'm afraid all of us are fighting a spiritual battle as our flesh battles with the will of God for our lives ... well penned!

(((gentle hugs))), healing prayers, and much love~

As always, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :(
