Happiness In The Midst Of Hell
Dark clouds gather around and the darkness I no longer see.
Hell storms in all it’s fury casting forth all it has towards me.
Yet happy am I in the midst of this hell; happy though bound I’m free.
I hear the knock, knock, knocking as darkness pounds my door.
Instinct begs to run, but the energy evades me to run anymore.
Knock, knock sounds the door as the incessant pounding goes on an on.
Running is not an option for this is my body, my castle and my temporal home.
My feet shuffle making a smooth peculiar and swift sound.
I reach the door and turn the knob, I see the hell in which I’m bound.
The image I see standing at the door is an uncanny likeness of me.
Chains of infirmity caress my body, but not my soul, for in that I’m free.
How can this be says the old fool, how can one be free when gripped by infirmity?
Easy replies the wise man which lives in the heart of me, easy so easy for love has set me free.
Thus I invite in my hell which strives but to kill and destroy my will.
I then kiss the sweetness of life, I resist the darkness and in love I take my fill.
So go away you demons of pain, be cast aside and back into the hell in which you reside.
For I have seen you in the darkness and fear gripped my soul.
Yet now I see you in the light and the love of God and the love of Jan has made me whole.
Yes…life is good despite all that we face…life is good because of HIS grace.
And before I close with this poem of happiness facing the demons I face.
I say a special prayer for a dear friend who is facing his own hell and needs God’s grace.
So I ask pray not for me because I’m free…Pray for him and the demons he does see.

You continue to be in all my prayers, Bubba, and I will pray fervently for your friend, too. May he/she take courage in their struggle - after witnessing you in yours, for you ARE an incredible Inspiration to me and everyone who knows you, and I love you, my dear Bubba.
