Three Years Removed - Still Remembered.

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

This coming Thursday will mark the anniversary that my late wife Leah and I shared for 23 years. Then two weeks later on September the Seventh - the day of her Birth as well as it became the day of her Passing into the waiting arms of Jesus. I received many flowers upon her passing. But one I kept…It has not bloomed since that year.

This piece is in remembrance of her. The above photo that I took, I found interesting. The Peace Lilly is one of the many arrangements. Three years later after not blooming at all it now blooms, not with one bloom, BUT THREE.

For some reason I find that to be of significance for me as Three to me represents the Trinity of The Father - The Son and The Holy Ghost.

Three Years Removed - Still Remembered.

It’s hard to imagine that it has been Three years since you have been gone.

I still remember that last day with your blue eyes turning to grey.

You whispered “Allen, when I leave I pray you don’t live alone”.

Three years later one of her final prayers to me has reigned true.

I have, I say in my spirit to Leah - your love for me was unselfish, for new love I found and in part I feel thanks to God and you.

We had some good times, both you and I…

We laughed a lot and Yes even sometimes together we would cry.

Though Three years removed, both I and my new love Jan,

Know that you my sweet Leah will always be a part of me.

This coming Thursday an arrangement of flowers for your grave Jan will make.

How many women do you know other than you,

Who out of love for me this task would they take?

None of which I can think - only you and Jan, both with hair golden blonde and hearts of gold which forever stay.

Now my dear Leah - I too face a challenge similar to you.

Cancer has also come my way:

Though caught early, and I unlike you have a good chance to stay.

But this is not about me…

Its about you and the blooming of your Peace Lilly on year number Three.

So rest sweet Leah, now within the presence of God -

Marvel and marvel again at the wonderment of a place that I in my wildest dreams couldn’t imagine…I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

So happy Third Anniversary in heaven my sweet love.

Though Three years removed, I still see you in the gentle flight of angels above.
