Learning To Fly Again

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

We can learn much by being still in the quiet of the day. If we but be silent and listen, watch and see…then we all can learn to fly.

Learning To Fly Again

I watched a small bird today as he flittered in laughter and danced in play.

The cool morning sun struggled and fought to wipe away the tears in its eyes.

The clouds fought back casting their gloom and haze, but the sun did win, and begun to shine.

I watched still the small bird on my decks railings continue to dance and play.

He would not be deterred neither by the sun nor gloom of approaching rain.

He was still going to sing his song and share with the world the beauty of life this day.

I thought about the brevity of his little life when in comparison to mine.

Yet he worried not about his tomorrow, he just sang and danced in this day and time.

Why not me thought I?

Why should I not be like this small bird of which I spied, why should I wait for tomorrow?

Why should I not sing and dance THIS day and laugh my way past the clouds of sorrow?

Life is too short to sit around and complain…to short not to laugh and sing each and every day.

Yes, I watched a small bird this day and for a brief flitting moment he watched me.

A glint of light shone forth from his tiny eye; he sang once more and with a quick nod took to the sky.

I then from my chair arose and followed suit…I walked out on the deck and I too spread my wings this day and learned to fly.

There is much to be learned from our feathered friends on how to fly and live each day in cheerful behavior like it was our last. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Yes I agree, for now, this moment is all we have...My Dad had a saying 'Make every post a winner'...I think he meant much the same. Live for today, and make every opportunity count..The Natural world has much to teach us...
Best wishes,
Diana..

Worrying about the future; a poisoned gift to us humans. Maybe if we can live in the present, we can learn to fly too... like you did.

Great idea! Great thoughts! Now I must go outside before the end of this day and enjoy what God has in store for He is definately FOR the birds! Why not us? Because we don't even try to fly. Amen

Allen,
Another fine example of how to live in the moment. Fly my sweet friend, fly...

Peace, love and light,
Amber
