I Remember Young!
Cry against gray skies and the rock fireplace’s amber glow.
I remember young, yet now the flames of life burn low.
I see from a distance, like unto a far away place.
I see youth with its soft supple skin,
Void of the ravages of time scrawled in lines across their face.
Oh how I remember young,
Oh the laughter, the energy and I softly weep as the once burning fire slowly dies and the remaining of what once were are snatched up only to be blown across the silent unforgiving sea of time.
What now of me as of all the youth my own eyes should see?
Envy marries sadness, ashes blow in the wind.
Never, oh never to feel, or smell the sweetness of smiling youth again.
May God grant me the peace and grace to realize that I once had my time…
In that this day, this season belongs to those whom smell of softness upon an unlined face.
Yet still in my mind’s eye…
I remember young.
