A Death Sentence And The Third White Cross.

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Prologue by Jan as tears poured down her face…
Our little Callie finally left this world this morning... She fought such a brave life hanging on for a week... She got a second wind Fri. & Sat. moving around, actually drinking some milk and downing a ton of water...still couldn't get her to eat... But I know in my heart she wanted to be with her Daddy Allen... He's the one that found her in the middle of the street 2 1/2 years ago & she lived a lot longer than the vet said she would...he was with was with her when she drew her last breath...now she will be free as we had to keep her separated from all our other babies... All she could do was look through the screen door into the kitchen and watch them run and play... The last month we gave into her and let out of the family room and she loved it...but the others stayed away... But she had so much fun exploring the rest of the house and finding so many places to hide from me... She made it into a game...sorry this is so long but she was my little gidget-midget and I loved her so much...

A Death Sentence and The Third White Cross.

You sweet little one, you came into our life in November 2011 as I rescued you from the middle of the road.
You were scared and all alone; crying for your mother as cars sped by…you were so alone.

My heart fell still for you dear Callie as I stopped and pulled you from harm’s way, and took you home.
You captured my heart at once with that gentle smile across your sweet face.
When I held you close I could feel heavens warmth and tender grace.

We took you to the vet just like all the kittens we do find, and when the vet came back, tears filled my eyes.
She told us that you were very sick and in a few short months that you would die.
She wanted to put you down that very day, yet I said NO and that we would give you all our love in every way.

Now two years later I find that you are amongst all the ones now gone.
I buried you this past Sunday just before we left off for our fall trip.
Yet in finding you I found a part of me. I found endless love from you dear Callie, a kitty sentenced to death, but through our love and yours, you were set free.

Thank you sweet one for all your love…thank you for all your smiles sent from above.
Thank you dear Callie for allowing me to find you, love you and for waiting for me to hold you as your spirit was set free.

No longer sweet one doth the chains which bound your body hold you captive.
No more shall you feel any type of discomfort or pain.
You are free dear Callie to join all the rest to romp and roam, though your shell lies beneath the third white cross…know this that beneath the sod and clay it is not your home.

For we will see you once again…when I don’t know, but that is in God’s hand.
We love you little one, rest now in sweet peace, for soon we shall see each other and with your smile and precarious ways, you shall us greet.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your precious Callie, Bubba..[BIG HUGS]. The recent (May 21, 2012) loss of JadeBelle, our own beautiful 18-yr. old American Longhaired Calico, still stings our hearts. Joe was her "Dada", too.

Like Callie, she was rescued. Jade(named for her huge almond-shaped green eyes)was snatched from an abusive man at just 4 weeks old, by our daughter, when the man tried to drown her in a pool, after several other foiled attempts - like the train tracks!! So I really understand the deep affection and the relationship that results, no matter how long, or short, our season with them is. What matters is that our love changes their lives..

As you know, the reward of their love in return, is almost unspeakable. How sad... most pets give love away far better than the humans ever do. :(

May the LORD bind up the wound in your hearts. ^ ^

Love you, Sis

It was so good that you could give Callie a little bit of the good life before her illness took her.

A wonderful poetic tribute to a unconditional loving pet. I don't know what to do when our pets leave the planet. I am trying not to notice that they are not getting younger and are slowing down way too fast. I try not to think that one day they will be gone. It's like the loss of a child. God knows we love them.

Peace, love and Christ blessings,
