OJ - Short for Orange Juice

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

When he stood in the sun, his coat looked like a fresh squeezed glass of Orange Juice. And when he saw one of us come outside or get out of the car from working or shopping, that tail stood straight up and his feet didn’t touch the ground as he pranced up to us. And we knew he loved us by the way he looked up at us and smiled the sweetest kitty cat smile you could ever see. Good Bye sweet boy…we will always miss you.

Poem Artwork
OJ

Death is ever present. It holds no one nor any living thing above another. Death is inescapable, inevitable and grievous to the spirit.

At times I stare into space, eyes fixed as if I were looking across the endless sea of time all whilst recalling everything that death has taken from my life and I softly weep inside.

My heart is heavily scared from the dark chapters of my life and yet still, even as I write this the sight and smell of death lurks near.

Death not only steals away the breath of man, but all things great and small. I look out the glass door of my home expecting to see his eyes looking for me, yet they are now absent from sight.

I remember the last time he lay in my lap. His eyes fixed on mine with a sweet smile on his face. I could feel his low purring as I rubbed his tummy and I would watch as he fell fast asleep.

He was just a cat some may say, but his love for me was unconditional. I miss him coming to greet me when I get off of work... I can still in my minds eye see his long furry tail standing straight up as he ran toward me...

Damn this thing called death. Damn all the scars it has left on my heart through the years. He is gone now and he lies with his brothers and sisters in my memorial garden.

It hurts when only memories remain. Just memories. No more sight, sound or touch. Just photographs and another white cross that says to my heart... I once lived and loved, yet I never no more.

Sleep well OJ... We loved you.

Don't know how many years he had you, but he was well loved and he knew it, as do you, keep that love through the future for one day he will come scampering up to see you as you too cross Rainbow Bridge...-e-
