Rainbows of my Soul
As I lay sleeping I could feel the blackness of the moonless night cover me with its dark velvety blanket.
I heard soft whispers off in the distance. I could smell the faint aroma of hyssop in the air. Other than the whispers there was no sound, only silence and the nothingness of night.
My sleep was soft and deep. The darkness seemed to comfort me and I didn't want it to end. Then I heard a booming voice commanding me to arise.
When I opened my eyes the comfort of my darkness had fled. The brilliance of the light that now enveloped me had chased the night away.
I arose only to find myself naked in a meadow of flowers. The whispers were no longer whispers. It was singing and it's melody claimed my soul.
Nearby I could hear the soft rush of a river. There were birds of every color circling overhead and a rainbow stretched across the sky. Though I knew not of this place in which I now found myself, I had no concerns.
I slowly made my way over the top of the grassy knoll towards the sound of the river and the air bombarded my senses with an indescribable sweetness.
As I descended the hill I saw the river. Filled with amazement I made my way to the rivers edge. I stood in awe of the strange but most wonderful place that I found myself in. I watched as small eddies spun in little circles beside the purple and white stones which jutted out from the quick flowing water.
I then knelt and placed my hand in the clear water. My hand began to tingle from the waters cool touch. I tried to remove my hand but could not. I felt the tingling course throughout my body and looking at my reflection in the water I could see my eyes glowing like fire.
The sensation soon abated and I heard a voice in my head saying "Drink, drink now of this the river of life my son for your heartache and worldly sorrows are now done".
I obeyed and lowered my head to drink. As I sipped the cool clear water I could feel all my pain from my past ebbing away. Though I knew that this was water it had a sweetness to it like no water I had ever tasted.
Suddenly and without warning my eyes grew heavy and the darkness of afore overcame me and I fell fast asleep. It was at that final moment before sleep took me that I knew. I knew all things good, a joy indescribable filled my soul and then the nothingness.
No sound nor sight. No visions to partake. Just the silence of mind and spirit. It was as if I were in a deep dark well. Then a faint sound... "Allennnnn oh Allen" came the echoing words.
I tried to close out this voice which called my name but I couldn't for it grew even louder.
"Allen get up now, you're going to be late for work". I shook my head and opened my eyes and the reality of life came rushing in like a flood. I closed my eyes once more in hopes of returning back to my nothingness but it had already taken flight. I grumbled a bit and arose knowing that my time was not finished and that my sleep of another day must wait.
Yet I take comfort in knowing that when that day arrives that I will see what in life is unseen. Knowing that there will be no heartache or pain, just perfect peace. A perfect peace just outside the thin veil that separates us all from our coming tomorrow.
