I Cried Today

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Today I was talking to someone who was having a very bad day. It was one of those ‘woke up on the wrong side of the bed’ day’s for them. And was only getting worse as the day was winding down. And then it happened and I was so unprepared. They broke down and cried.
Knowing what they were going through, it broke my heart for them and I could feel their pain. Do I reach out and give them a hug? No, that would be so inappropriate. Do I pat them on the shoulder and tell them ‘It’ll be ok? No, this situation required a little more. Do I ask them if I could pray for them? Being how everything is topsy turvy in today’s world, that could be so politically incorrect and be a total insult as I do not know their religious affiliations/beliefs.
So what do I do? And while I’m running all of this through my head their sobs were getting deeper and more gut wrenching. So I do what anyone would do…I look deep into this persons eyes all the way to their heart and I see the pain and I shed a tear, then another and another. We sat there, two kindred spirits, washed in a sea of sadness.

I Cried Today

I watched and listened today to a song that can only be sung by that of one; of one with a heavy heart.

I watched as they cried, I tried offering words to ease their pain but failed: for you see I felt their pain as if it were my own and I too began myself to cry.

Is this a sign of weakness on my part; nay, nary not I say. It is but the true empathy of my spirit and heart and mind.

I honestly believe if everyone felt this way our world and our lives could be a much better place. Therefore I often question myself when I see and feel the way I do, and I momentarily wonder why is it that I feel so blue.

I can't explain why I so often feel this way. It's like a connection between two souls . When it happens it grabs you and won't let go.
I'm a grown man and I'm not ashamed to say to each and everyone that I feel this way.

So yes it is true , I cry for others almost every day.

Too often people turn away from other people's pain. Too self-involved in their own lives, they ignore others around them. It is never a weakness to show empathy and support. Too bad our society doesn't reinforce this belief.

Doesn't seem like crying for someone, if they need it, is wrong, in fact it is likely the most compassionate thing one human being can do for another...-e-

I get the feeling that you want to remove the feeling of anxiety people get about crying.

Based on what you've written, I would say that you continue to cry and get insights into your behavior. I never cry very much about incidents that happen to others. But, when someone touches me with their description or poem, I can't help but cry along with them.

My biggest tears come when I hear a touching testimony from someone who came back to life because they had faith. Congressman Scalese is one of those individuals. His testimony touched me so much that I cried tears of joy. Thank you for sharing.

Me, too, Bubba... me, too.

One Sunday morning 26 years ago, I was on my face praying, asking the LORD what message He wanted me to bring forth at Worship.
But what Father GOD told me, was that He was going to stir ME like the Pool of Bethesda and that my tears would heal others!

Knowing you, I believe you have a very similar Gift, and I bless you in the name of the LORD.

When I was just 6 years old, I was scolded harshly by my mother for "crying over everything". Those words felt like a knife in my little girl's heart. I had received Christ at age 5 and I was very tenderhearted towards all.

But I remember looking steadily at both of them, seeking understanding, and saying, "I can't help it - I am a human antenna!"

My father guffawed... and my mother snapped, "Stop it!"

So, I tried to subdue my Gift, but when I was 40, just like Moses, the LORD found me again and rekindled His flame in me...Praise be to GOD!

You have a beautiful heart .. and no doubt in mymind, healing in your tears.

Love you, my Bubba.
Be safe and no matter what, keep shedding those precious drops of healing. And remember, our Father in Heaven keeps them in a bottle- That's how much it means to HIM!!!

Love & Hugs to you & Jan & Rv. Inis
