Lessons of the Sunflowers

Driving home with rain clouds gathering all around, casting a cold and grey shroud across the land, I look over and see acres and acres of stalks, all of which, just a few short months ago were bright and beautiful Sunflowers with their faces glowing brilliant looking up into the sun.

Lessons of the Sunflowers
The warmth of spring and its gentle rain comes forth on a soft whisper and gives life and a beauty that for me is impossible to explain.
Then without warning the swift fire of summers sun bares down on the small but ever growing fields of green. Soon stalks with tiny golden black and yellow heads begin to emerge from the spindly stems.
They sway back and forth from the warm summer wind in unison as if dancing to the songs of heaven. Their heads held high; always following the light.
The seasons of life continue to run rampant. Storms come and storms go. Some sadly even in their prime of this fail to survive.
The days start turning cooler and the Sunflowers begin to slowly fade. Yet still, even in this, they continue to look heavenward until at last they no longer can. Then they bow their heads as if in a united prayer of thanksgiving for the chance to briefly shine, dance and sing in the sun of life.
Their time has come and they are no more. However in this, their life, they were able to sow the seeds of life for future generations to come. They will never truly die.
We too are like the Sunflowers. We are bathed in our infancy by the gentle years of a mothers tears. We are then stoked by the heat of our fathers preparation for the storms of life.
Yet we too begin to succumb to the tolls of time, and if we did as we would, we too shall have the seeds of life fall on fertile ground and bow our heads knowing that we too shall live on.

This poem definitely gave me more an appreciation for sunflowers.
Yes, we will one day bow to our creator and hopefully, will rejoice.
Amen!
I only regret that you didn't mention the large head of seeds that is a windfall for birds to make it through the winter. Sunflower seeds are also very beneficial for humans to consume. We are just finding that out, although we have been using the oil for very long time.
