Another White Cross

Today, New Years Day our beautiful little Smokey crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. She is one of many that we found as babies either in the road or on the side of the road, thrown out like yesterdays garbage…we took them in and nursed them and got them back healthy and gave them all the love that they asked for…Smokey was one of a kind. She didn’t like people, noise or the other cats messing with her…she stayed high up on the top of the window sill or on a mountain of pillows on a chair we no longer used…She was our first girl and considered herself queen. And as queen ‘She ruled the house’…until we meet again, you took a little of our hearts today…Jan

Another White Cross
We came back home from vacation only to find that you our little one, had had a stroke while we were gone.
With your head tilted to the side in an abnormal way, your eyes searched ours with a questioning look as if to say; why, what happened and help me this day.
I thought, I hoped and prayed that it was just a transient (TIS) stroke, a small one and that you would be better the next day. You seemed to improve over the course of that night, however this morning your eyes again searched mine, this time with more fright.
Help me they seemed to plead, help me now in this my time of need. With my heart pounding and my dear Jan in tears. I picked you up placing you into the carrier as you fought the good fight as I imagine that we all will do on our final night.
Off to the vet I drove, misting rain to match my misty eyes, trying my best not to cry.
Into the back room we went, just you and I. Stark white walls and a table shiny and cold. I sat you down leaning over and holding you close. You seemed confused, your eyes still searching mine, you not knowing what I sadly did know.
Soon, too soon it seemed, a stocky man in a white coat entered the room. He gave you a shot to ease you to sleep telling me that he would be back in just a few.
It was in those few short moments that the dam of tears I had been fighting began to flow. Knowing, knowing that the time had come for you to go. He then came back and gave you the final shot. I held you, your eyes fixed on mine as your breathing began to slow.
You were at peace now. You were free from all the confusion and pain. I placed you gently in a bag and exited the room. With tears streaming down my face, I carried you past strangers and their pets.
They saw my face and they quickly dropped their eyes off of you and me. I can’t help but think that some of them may have also silently cried.
The rain continued on, but Home now we are. I carried you out to the backyard to the memorial garden and laid you to rest beside the rest of your brothers and sisters that have gone on before you.
This weekend I will make you a cross and place it beside the others. Sleep well my little one, we loved you.

May God's love comfort you.
I am saddened to read of your loss.
Only those who share their lives with little fur family members understand the tears and the sorrow.
my vet and I weep together when the time comes that we must end the suffering. My little fur companions also are buried in our back yard.
in the words of my vet: "What a Homecoming welcome you will have one day" and in answer to the startled glance I gave him, IT WOULD NOT BE HEAVEN IF THEY WERE NOT THERE!
may that thought comfort you as it did and does me

How devastating.. my heart to yours.
The recent sudden loss of my own beloved Eddie, is driving me to more new tears, even as I read the story of your beautiful Smokey.
it's been 4 months and I still ache for his presence and break down sometimes I'm so lonely for him.
I know you both love your cats the same. We're deeply sorry for your loss..
Joe and I will keep you - and your other cats, because they are deeply-affected, too - in our prayers.
Beautiful photo of Smokey..
No surprise, our Eddie is buried in our Memorial Garden, too... with Jade Belle.
The LORD comfort your broken hearts..
Love you guys,
Sis
