Poem Artwork

I looked around just today

And all I could see

Was ageing hippies

Hung up still on yesterday.

I must to this, truly confess,

It was quite a shocking sight

For I saw in the mirror

The same thing last night.

Where did it all go

Is what I want to know?

For I recall those days so easily,

One could think in just a blink

that Woodstock was next week.

Carefree days they were at best,

Yet those times were filled

 with injustice and social unrest.

For we set out in our own little way

To change the world and set it straight

We travel light, and shared our plate.

Filled with free love, sit ins and such,

Pass the pipe of peace bro,

For it was never a fuss.

Yet I looked around just today

And I really saw, what we became.

We are our parents at a later date.

With children to raise and bills to pay.

The establishment that we did distrust

Is the machine now that drives us.

Amazing still,

 is our remaining will

To change the world,

Yet this time

We do it not in strife

but from within.

For to change the heart,

One must change the mind.

Did you ever hear the song by the Bellamy Brothers, "Old Hippie"? I think you might like it.

Uh oh, urs is copywrited, does that mean I have to change the name on mine, oh well, what the hell...Peace, Al...Rufuz and ED
