Of all great things that men have done

To bring us from the dark,

The one that shines the brightest

Came out of Menlo Park,

When Tom lit up Manhattan

(Its my humble point of view)

And gave us the electric light

In eight-teen eighty-two.

Author's Note:  The first public demonstration of  Thomas Edison's lighting system was in December, 1879, when the Menlo Park laboratory complex was electrically lighted.  On September 4, 1882 the first  commercial power station, located on Pearl Street in lower Manhattan provided light and power to customers in a one square mile area.  The electric age had begun.
