A party like no other

Poem Artwork

This night's one you'll share with me

and, while the ghosts all hoot with glee,

we'll party 'til the light of dawn

wipes out the ghoulish shadows spawned

By horrors of this night's events,

With gruesome gargoyle's gross intents

To haunt and harry homestead's path

And steal a place at cosy hearth,

Whilst wicked witch flaunts tattered broom,

Her laughter cackling in the gloom

And spells are cast to instil fear

In every soul that's far and near,

With viper's venom, scorpion crust,

Crushed Raven bones and Devil's dust.

The stench, which wafts from cauldron's depth,

A vicious vapour, stifling breath.

Behold! As midnight chimes the hour,

The cool night air turns thick and sour.

Wing-beats bludgeon frigid breeze

And people pray on bended knees,

While bloodlust creature's dense festoon

Blankets Earth and blocks the Moon

And screams of terror rend the night,

As serpents slither into sight.

Coiling, broiling, in their hordes,

While risen dead reach out towards

Grim Reaper's mean and mighty shroud.

Aloft his steed, he's dour and proud.

His horse's hooves strike cobbled street.

Tonight it's you, he's keen to meet!

And all around, 'things' flail and thresh

Their voices reach a howling cresc...

endo, while we cover heads

And fear the groans from under beds

'Til suddenly, a light breaks through

And sunrise is a welcome cue.

Her warmth descends in valiant quest

To purify night's evil zest.

The howling hasten from her charm,

They fear her light will cause them harm.

And, as he sinks beneath the stones,

Grim Reaper roars in rasping tones...

"Tis just a pause - A small reprieve.

I'll come for you next Hallows Eve!"

Very well done, Ruan. I love the flow born from the rhyme and rhythm and I love the imagery that awakens thoughts and emotions. I find Halloween rather inspiring as you can tell by my several poems here on that theme. Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

Brilliant! I especially liked the cresc...endo! This rivals Ichabod's slight brush with the forces of darkness. School kids (over 13) would love it! M.True

...perfectly fitting tonight's blood red Full Moon...along with a lunar
eclipse...I' m excited about the spectacle...can't wait!...

Halloween poem inspired by merry ghosts and goblins...vampires
and witches...in masquerade's ecstasy night of scary and fright and
a scream...little orange pumpkins shining bright...giving lots of spooky
surprises and goosebumps all over the living bodies...
BOO! Have a Magical Halloween!

You are the first and set the bar high this Halloween season for all the ghastly poems to come. I found myself reading it very fast in the cadence was building to a crescendo that would be really scary if you read it to children (of at least a certain age) on a dark night such as tonight's blood moon. Did I see Prince Harry in there somewhere, but was I just mistaken. ;-)

What a treat! Easily the best penned poem I’ve ever read
of ghosts and goblins and ghastly dread. You are in your
zone with chills and thrills that pierce the bones.

One of the better Halloween poems I believe I have ever read, Ruan. You gave imagery to the wicked ones who look to harm us . . . uh . . . But I didn't see Barack Hussein Obama here.
