She did not sneak into my life
we had known each other many years
neither my first love nor first lover.
I had went off to do service
and came home only on a leave
when a friend threw us together.
Neither of us expected it
but the ignition of our lust
exploded like pyrotechnics.
Now lust burned into searing love
a passion that consumed us both
married in haste before I left.
Eased at the beach near my training
we kissed, held and loved the night long
and let no one cool our ardor.
Rather quickly the time ended
I left for foriegn shores alone
and here in my troubles began.
She could not stand being alone
so soon after returning home
she was to be found nowhere there.
I did not get a Dear John note
my heart shattered, love not for me
so a judge and lawyer were found.
Next time home between tours of war
she found me and the fire relit
but when gone again, so was she.
In the years that did then follow
one more time she did find my space
this time narrowly I held sway.
No woman or girl ever held
my sanity and heart so firm
in their fickle grip after that.
Gone is the pain not memory
loves have come and later the loss
I wish them all love even her.
Outstanding write of emotions and memories.
Lady Mary Ann
People will come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime as they are supposed to. And in her case step back out, but the good thing is she left you with a memory as you did her. Relish in the good memories of love even if the pain was difficult. She gave you something you needed as you did her.

IDLE THOUGHTS/ROMANCE
“Love is like a simmering
pot of liquid.
Once you light a flame under it,
constant attention is required,
lest it boil itself dry.”
I don't know how that could possibly help you at this late date, but your rather revealing poem brought it to mind. Sometimes our writing process really makes us open up.
Nicely done. Dick
Much enjoyed this poem.
