Nigh four hundred years ago past
two entirely different peoples
met in peace to hold a repast
of bird, fish and many staples.
Both leaders spoke in their own tongues
of Gods they praised with different names
and bounty shared freely among
while children played at varied games.

Today we meet and celebrate
that feast they held in times gone by
dining in family groups of late
less sharing with those with needs high.
As i wish Happy Thanksgiving
to all i meet or read these lines
my deep prayer for those living
in war, illness or on food lines.
