my sincerest wishes for everyone at this celebration of sharing with our fellow man
Nigh four hundred years ago past
two entirely different peoples
met in peace to hold a repast
of bird, fish and many staples. Both leaders spoke in their own tongues
of Gods they praised with different names
and bounty shared freely among
while children played at varied games.
Today we meet and celebrate
that feast they held in times gone by
dining in family groups of late
less sharing with those with needs high. As i wish Happy Thanksgiving
to all i meet or read these lines
my deep prayer for those living
in war, illness or on food lines.
The Pilgrims were coming off a very hard time and the Indians saved them by teaching them how to fend in a new land. We should never forget that when dealing with their descendants. Life is uncertain and we never know when it will turn against us so we truly need to be thankful on Thanksgiving for whatever we have.
Your poem touched me because I will be joining an immigrant family who will be speaking a language that I do not know while I am eating a uniquely American Thanksgiving turkey and all the trimmings that they will not eat, preferring their country's food better.
But we will come together in good fellowship and I will get to taste their food as well as discuss mutual concerns about just about everything. Is it a great country, or what!
THESE WERE NOT GOOD TIMES FOR THE FOREFATHERS, THEY HAD LOST A GREAT DEAL BUT THEY REMEMBERED THAT NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION GOD WAS, IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE...GOOD! THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.
