Each floating leaf is
brushed away by breezes, rain
and death. We become
bare. Vulnerable to
humanity.

Our glorious summer
cocoon of soft plants
and flowers. Of large
trees, dressed in emerald.

Brilliant colors and
sweet passing fragrances
covered our dwelling place
and kept us hidden.

Sun patterns dropped
through leaves and limbs
and made spots on our nakedness.
Refreshing outdoor showers,
because we were hidden.

Now, we look out onto
bare trees. We’ll
fade into shorter days
and wait for summer
to drape us again.
