This is so very true , even more in India, It is slavery for some women all through their lives but the love for their children is strongest which helps them in the mental strength they so require to stay focused and we see that too , how much a women has contributed to bringing up the family without any support and accept the pains and trials in life as she does not know anything better. There is a movement providing micro loans to small businesses that is flourishing in countries like Africa. Most of these loans are going to women because they are the ones that have been working and have the skills necessary to carry out their business plans. I see this movement and the growing number of women business persons leading the way to more and more equality for women in Africa. If Africa is to become what it can become, it must give up its archaic thoughts about women's subservience to men.

Education is certainly a key to being able to challenge old ideas, but financial independence is a powerful force for women.

I'm not saying this is a good situation, but I can't help but admire the humility and sense of duty of the African woman. Still she doesn't hate her man or leaves her man, or rises up against him. You think that's forced or she agrees with the division of labor the way it is? Love the poetic expression though. Feels kinda sad and hopeless however. Well done! D.T.

I think you have portrayed an African woman precisely. In many places the African women do work like that and they only do this out of love for their family. We send so much money away to charities to help Africa, I just hope the money goes to where it needed most. However, it does not diminish my trust in continuing to support charities. I hope in some small ways it will still be of some benefits to those who are really in need.

Awww . . . I have a feeling your heartbreaking poem about the African Woman is more correct than not. And if possible her plight is even worse. It is something the western world is incapable of understanding. The massive amounts of money which has poured into Africa in my life time would be staggering if known. But it never gets to where it is supposed to get. No, it is stolen by those who control the population. I guess it is a centuries old tradition and it doesn't look as if there is any breakthrough to the point where all that aid can trickle down to help the common people. They are perpetually doomed to be born and to die in abject poverty.
