As I sit here reflecting and having flashbacks from my life,
I see mommy in the kitchen preparing a special holiday meal for us all,
Daddy sits watching football,
And my sisters and I play in the yard,
An interruption enters the scene,
Fastforward twenty-five years,
Mommy holds her aching back while cooking the special holiday meal,
Daddy drinks an Ensure shake after eating a small portion,
My sisters have since married, had children, and left home,
I sit at the dinner table alone, eating the special dinner.
Although the years have brought about change, I am still grateful.
I am thankful for mommy and daddy. I am grateful for the many
memories created over the years.
I wish I could turn back the hands of time to sit with my entire family one
last time, but memories are treasures.
I am thankful for telephones. I get to laugh with my sisters from miles
away.
I am grateful we are all still alive and in fairly good health.
I am grateful there is still time to say "I Love You".
Although I was alone many Thanksgivings and didn't even participate when not invited, and only made a traditional dinner one time in my life, I had enough good times in my youth to last a lifetime. Thankful that I have no regrets about those times in the long go past.
