Tick-tock, Tick-tock I hear the clock move
She lies in her nest waiting so anxiously
Soon there will be the noise of new puppies
All night she turns and scratches in her nest
Getting her nursery just perfect for their arrival
Barking around the house she is always hungry
Snacks, dry and canned puppy food and vitamins
Still she will eat 3 times her normal amount
Then off to sleep and scratch around her nest
I asked her are you going to be a mommy?
She laid her head on my lap and wagged her tail
This will be her last litter though, now I’m sad
She loves them every litter she loves her babies
This time I will let her keep one for her and me
I hope it makes her happy, not sad like normal
I can’t bare to sell them anymore she cries
People think they don’t miss their children
Believe me they do! She cries for months
Authors Note: My Dalmatian Sammi’s puppies are due any day now. She looks like a little Holstein cow walking around my house. She is the best mommy dog I have ever seen so I am going to keep one and then have her fixed after all she is seven years old now.
Spot on! It is so hard to let the puppies go after they are weaned. Six weeks or so, I bond with my wolf cubs and cry when I place them in qualified homes of battered women and women who are in need of a lifestyle change. I hope Sammi has healthy babies. Whichever one you pick out to keep will have a loving home, Theresa...I always tell my wolf clients to "let the wolf cub pick you"...it works out always! Be well, you and Sammi...Blessed Be.

I believe you, I always have. I brought home a pregnant feral kitty not long ago, and she truly doted over her little ones when they were born, and she was an excellent mother. We kept a few of her precious little ones, but she still searches for the others that we gave to good homes. And I can really feel her heartache.
And your Sammi is gorgeous!

Oh, do I ever know what you are talking about here, Theresa! I hope Sammi the Holstein Cow will come through it all well (of course she will) and appreciate this very tender, sensitive,and especially compassionate poem. If she doesn't, I do!

Awwwwwwwww.....how precious this is....yes it's sad but even we got to the stage where we had to say NO MORE!! And I think you are doing the right thing my friend!!
