I am sitting here watching my puppies play
They seem as if they are mine and mine alone
Just nine weeks ago their mother died, gone
That night I sat crying as I fed three babies

Every hour and a half they would awake
I wondered do they remember her, their mom
She was beautiful and feisty I loved her spunk
Amazing intellect I used to think watching her

The first time I let the pups out of their box
They unknowing or was it? Ran to my room
All three lay in the last spot their mother was
She always stayed in the same place by the bed

They knew, they know her bed, comfort is there
One day little Lucky was playing and barking
I came in the room and watched her bark wildly
At my desk where their mothers ashes sit in rest

I wonder do they know?
