Poem Artwork

" Mercury is also the God of Symbolic Crossroads. This reminds us how important it is to be open minded when we stand at a Crossroads in life. Mercury reminds us that keeping our minds open to as many choices as possible is the best way to face the unknown.

........................................................................................................................................................................................................

Mercury, You Cosmic Winged Messenger of the Gods

blazing, celestial son of  King Zeus and Maia

to the Romans you were Hermes

and the God of all inspiration and new ideas

your mercurial nature like Quicksilver

made you impossible to grasp or capture

flexibility and ingenuity were your key qualities

virtues which all main players today

should emulate and utilize

to be successful in the cut and thrust of life

like the great Ulysses in the Odyssey

you used wile and cunning

to extricate yourself from predicaments

like the colossal Socrates

you had a daemon at your side

both your alter ego and guide

you were constantly in battle with Duality

that evil twin that resides within us all

that mortal engagement

to reconcile light with dark

as you stand at the crossroads of life

honour him by placing your tile

at all these pivotal convergences

observe his magical cadecues staff

that embraces the warring factions within

that rod of two intertwined snakes

as he presides over commerce and trade

with his purse filled to the brim

and his winged feet that carries him far

thou art indeed the door to Infinity

Another example of our infinity. Over the history of this earth many truths have been turned into lost histories, myths and legends; then tossed out to diregard. You have opened a door with this poem. A light, if you will, to remind us of those lost in the 'logical evolution'.

Keep on keeping on, Peter, you have a whole host of mythical and non-mythical subjects for your talented pen. Mercury. I have always had ann affinity for the wing-feet legend and you do him more than justice herein.

Look at som of our comic book heroes and you'll notice the similarities of these heroes of yester year. It is comforting for children to build upon their dreams and history is always a great lesson when approached this way Peter.
Great knowledge yet again from you.
Thank you!
Susan
