Poem Artwork

Walking along the silver sands

with the surging foam at my feet

I'm feeling real good within my self

for I know I worked hard to get here

where I now am in life, content

a sandpiper trills on a seaweed coverd rock

wonderful feelings skipping through my heart

as I relay flashbacks of my adventurous life

and count all my blessings under the stars

I find my favorite spot, nestled in the sheltered dunes

I don't need anyone else to grant me happiness

for deep down in my soul is where it is at

a faraway lighthouse flashes intermittently out at sea

as I weigh all my considered options in my mind

the tangy salt air smells so fresh out here

and the seawaves are sparkling with phosphorous crests

as flocks of waders silohuette the fading light

alone am I again, as I have always been

tied to no one, and master of my fate

I settle down where the marram grass grows

and stretch out my toes, in a comfortable pose

as the crashing rollers reverberate with grace

and I am sanguine, I have returned to the line

where I once set out, with little of my own

and I have gone full circle

to return to my source

What is is about the sea, it's vast and overwhelming nature leading one to introspection and the source, while nature warms the back and toes are tickled by teasing tide? Is it that tide that reminds us of the cycles of life or that sheltered, familiar spot that wraps around as us look for the answers and contentment, comforts us in the knowlegde that even in the satisfaction of life and self-sufficiency, we are never really alone... if we believe. Ask the sandpiper as he skitters across the sand...he knows. You heard his song...or the sand dollar, one full of life's fillaments, now adorning the beach, sand worn and bleached a pristine white...a treasure for the taking...even the hermit crab seeking the shelter of an abandoned shell. Thanks for taking me to my own beach today....

I like this, Peter. You see where you are. You accept that you deserve to be there. You don't wail about any faults or sins of yours in the past (like some of us do) that make you feel that you are not worthy of all that you have, including your wonderful peace of mind. Reap you rewards, I have a feeling that you have earned each and every one.

I have had some of my most memorable times in life snuggled in the dunes on the beach, especially up in the Santa Barbara area.

This construct fills the senses with being there Peter, where you were, physically, or in your imagination. Very soothing!

Peter,
this was truly a celebration of the human spirit, coming full circle into awareness of your true self.. You always amaze me with your ability to look deep within, place it together and draw strengths from it, creating beautiful manna on canvas.. Extraordinary thoughts…Thank you!

"I have returned to the line where I once set out, with little of my own and I have gone full circle to return to my source". Just adore the whole philosophy behind this gentle and restful write, Peter. Peace may be bestowed from above, but it is definitely preserved from within and all of life's ups and downs serve to try to "spill" it, like water from a glass. So glad you have found that equilibrium, that still point which is indeed the eternal source of all things that pertain to life in all its fullness... from within. The picture made my heart skip a beat as it so took me back to Margarita... mm-mm.... I'll just imagine the "surging foam", then!! :)) TY and bless you, Kate xx
