I'm going miss hie "Cricky" and the abundance of energy, wit and pure love and repect for all of nature. I was stunned when I heard of his death. All I can say is God needed him home now and now he watches us all as he protected his precious animals. Wonderful tribute!

I'll miss that bloke. Steve-O loved animals; he died doing what he loved best, educating the rest of us landlubbers about animal conservation. A beautiful, worthy tribute; well done.

He was a whale of a man, and a true wildlife warrior, and we will miss him for a very long time to come. But I also know he died as he would have wanted to, out in the wild, not in some wretched office building or big city. And I hope his legacy lives on - forever.

Thanks Suzie, I was so upset by this I couldnt pen a damn thing, just kept thinking about how it could be that such a man as large as life, who taught us to respect and even love the not so pretty creatures of creation, and how to cope with them in their own territory, without hurting them even. When so many still shoot and kill the crocs and use them for shoes..
When so many misunderstand our snakes, deadly n all as they are, they dont set out to hurt man, Why a stingray has got me, but I'll say this, they are more deadly to humans swimming even in shallow waters, than any whitepointer, snake, croc, because so many dont realize just how close they come to stepping on one under their feet in shallow waters! I nearly did once, it was a very close shave, and it was a biggin, that if it had of gone through my foot or leg, oh heck, what a mess! Nonetheless the boys speared it, and carved it up and threw it on the beach barbie,which made me sick as they smell like urine urrrrk. The barb on it was 8 inches long no bull!
So, my heart lurched when I heard that he'd been hit in the chest by one, oh shyte... I could cry right now, gonna miss Steve, he was a fantastic bloke. Had to see this paediatrician today, for my little son who is dyslexi, and I was reading the article in the paper when he called me in, and so I offered my apologies for not hearing him straight away. When I mentioned it, he says " Oh he was an idiot" and all I could think of the whole time, was " you are a dead set jerk" what the hekl would you know about Steve yah.....never mind aye!

I feel so sad. I've always found him to be so innocent and childlike, but very intelligent. I've never in a million years thought that he would leave us in that manner.

A grand tribute Suzie for a larger than life man who took our breath away ,and truly dared to live his beliefs! I agree with Sherry, it is sad, but he also left a legacy behind him of being unafraid to do what is best for all life, even if it cost him his own!That is a true hero, and not many of them around. He will be missed.

This is an excellent tribute, Suzie. Not long ago I had posted a tribute to one of his animals, Harriet, a 176 year old tortise who had passed away. Mr. Irwin had kept her for several years as part of his family on his wildlife reserve in Australia. It is sad that someone who had so much to offer to humanity should have met such an early demise.
