Withstanding heat
Withstanding rain
Enduring weather
The flower sustains
Standing upright
The flower has might
Hour upon hour
Flowers never take flight
Inspiring us to love and to live out our days
The flower’s exquisite beauty is sure to amaze
And, when comes time for the flower’s demise
Petals cover the ground, pleasing the eyes
It is been another tough summer in our backyard. The garden and flowers have needed constant watering because of the drought conditions punctuated infrequently by flooding downpours. This spring, workmen completely mowed and uprooted the previous year's growth in the power line right-of-way behind the house. For a while all I saw was dirt through the slats of our fence. This morning, I saw flowers peeking above the 6 foot fence! After only two months of growth, wild lantana has regenerated and reached the height of at least 6'5", bringing many butterflies and bees to the area, free of expensive water, at no charge. In the fall, migrating hummingbirds will find this wild flowering plant a tasty treat for their upcoming flight across the Gulf of Mexico.
