Being a Grandfather Made Raising Teenagers Worthwhile
I look down into her trusting eyes
Her arms stretched up to me
She doesn’t question who I am
Loves me unconditionally
Such love is an aphrodisiac
To a grandfather’s heart
It’s a love to take to heaven
When my time comes to part
So I lift her in my arms
Hold her cheek next to mine
Smell her sweet baby scent
Store that memory for time
She gives her Poppy kiss
When I ask her too
She thinks I can do no wrong
No matter what I do
When she has a boo boo
She needs Poppy’s kiss for sure
I can make it all better
A hugs a sure fire cure
And when Mommy tells her no
And Nanny shakes her head
She knows a little tug on Poppy’s heart
Will get her out of bed
They say she has me wrapped
Around her tiny finger tight
Perhaps she does but then again
I think maybe that’s all right
Cause when she falls asleep
In her old Poppy’s lap
I hold a little piece of heaven
A tiny angel takes her nap.
Merriest Christmas and Many Blessed years
