It is amazing sometimes how an inanimate object can sometimes take on a life of it's own...

Poem Artwork

The Muse Within My Desk

My knee has worn the stain away

Where it rests against the wood

I see my granddaughter’s teeth marks

She chewed it up real good

The cup rings from a million cups

Of tea and coffee that went cold

A cup of broken leaded pencils

Pens out of ink cause they’re so old

Scraps of paper and little postie notes

In every nook and lonely cranny

Pictures of two little girls in dresses

On the laps of poppy and their granny

A thousand poems and stories

At least four completed books I wrote

Certificates on parchment paper

Small things my world took note

This old desk has become so much of me

Like my fingers, my eyes my brain

When I’m gone some day another

Will resurrect the muse of this desk again!

Wonderful, Felix. I have a desk just like the one you describe. I've never written a poem about it though. Thank you for sharing this offering. Love and peace to you.

I've always felt that our work place tells people our story. They all have some identifying marks, whether our children or like you, your grand children leaving their teeth marks. It is our way of life and you tell about it good. Don't trade it off. Karen

This is an EXCELLENT write Felix, and yes inanimate objects do have a life. We create/mold them and they eventually in time when one notices appear to have taken on life all to their own. I really enjoyed this Felix for so many reasons, thanks for walking us down your memory lane too!

It is the mark of the true Poet, dear Felix, to breathe life into inanimate objects and thus fill a reinvented world with strange, yet fascinating beings, with endless stories of their own to tell. And when their stories and those of the Poet's are interwoven, as is the case in this awesome writing, then it truly is a miraculous treat to be a reader!

You are a WRITER indeed, Felix, and I would LOVE a piece of this desk sometime and would hold it as precious as a square inch of Wembley turf (Andy will understand...). Wonderful in concept and execution: this desk lives and breathes with the spirit of its owner and shines so translucently - despite its "battered" state! - that I bet the grain and polish of it is luscious and that you can see your own reflection in it in parts. I'm envious!! My glory hole where I sit and stew my life away is my inner sanctum and hallowed space... I can relate to this write a great deal and feel the affection ooze through its pores. And, as for the photo, THAT ROCKS!! You look a picture of health and every inch the sage that we know you to be - as well as Captain Big Heart. One of my Felix favs, this. TY and Bless you, Kate xx

no doubt your desk will be a muse for your grandchildren: "this is where grandpa writes" and they will write inspired verse and story just as you do ...

It is funny how some inanimate objects become so much a part of us. Our first, favorite car, that wallet given to us by a special someone, a wedding ring, worn by the years and the memories. Without these things, we feel naked, in a way, yet when we leave this place they will not go with us. There is a sort of sadness attached to that knowledge, but the hope that someone else will love them as we have is the image that softens the sorrow. Nice work, Felix!
Take care,
Sherry
