The Ghost of Balmoral

Purely fictional recollection of a ghost story I heard once...

Poem Artwork

When Night Comes To Balmoral

The widow’s walk is closed off now

Broken rails are all that’s left there in plain sight

Eerie reminder of that fateful time

The Captain’s widow died that fateful night

He’d gone for many months far from his New Brunswick port

She climbed the stairs in the dark of night

A prayer on her lip and her lantern held before her

As she just hoped he might see her one small light

She held the light high aloft  in the storm

Only lightening greeted her from the sky in scorn

There…what was that she thought she saw

Was it the white of sail and perhaps his safe return

No one that night knew or heard the railing let go

No one but the wind and her dear God above

She died on the rocks below as the lonely clock struck twelve

Her last fleeting thoughts of her Captain’s one true love

Now Balmoral is a lovely country inn craved for its scenic cliff top view

By daytime quite serene but at night sometimes when a sea squall rends the air

With the thunder crash and lighting flash and rain pounding down like lead

They say you can hear her footsteps on the stairs as you lie there in your bed!

Oh, I understand now. Her husband was the invisible man, so she learned how to become the invisible woman! Cute, Perry Mason. Another case solved.

Beautiful Inn! As one accustomed to ghosts, I would feel right at home at Balmoral, lol. Tragic, romantic write, Felix. Much enjoyed this fictional drama as the images were so effectively written I could feel it!
