On the eve of a vote to decide whether our gov't will bring our forces back from Afghanistan or extend their mission for another two years our first female soldier is killed...

Poem Artwork

tonight our government reported

our countries first lady soldier died

in the far off land of Afghanistan

and friends and family cried

a father weeps for his little princess

and tries hard to understand

what great threat to democracy

that sent his baby to that land

went with pride beneath the Maple Leaf

wore the peacekeeper’s blue beret with pride

now they’ll take her home in a body bag

so who was it to us all so easily lied

a peacekeeping force that cannot shoot

until someone shoots at them first

what lunacy to send our young to die

just to sate some warlords thirst

seventeen Canadians killed in action

where no action is supposed to be

tonight the government votes to decide

how many more will die you see.

This is very sad, for all those who have lost their lives and all those who have lost their loved ones. Where the deeper meaning is for all this death...nobody can come up with anything that would make sense, there just is no justification to send people to their death.

So sorry Canada's people have been siphoned into such tragedy. Can't we all just get along? We ask ourselves daily, when will it end?

The same day that this fine young lady was killed, the same day I wrote this verse...is also the same day the Canadian government voted 149 to 145 to keep our troops in Afganhistan another two years.
Boggles the mind, doesn't it.

Your passion and anguish are so palpable here, Pops, and you relate just as if YOU were this little Princess's father... but in a way you are... not only because of your overflowing and big-heartedness, but because she IS one of your country's fair daughters who has been lain out on the killing fields in the name of peace. And each and every loss is another mother's son or father's daughter. Your howl of distress cuts deep - deeper than "words" can express... I hear this in the mind of my heart where only tears can speak of what you describe. Bless you and all I can do is pray... LOL Kate xx

Wow, Felix, this one reaches into the heart emotionally,
and yet is so thought-provoking as well. Does the father's pride
outweigh his grief. You say it so well: Lunacy!

Felix,

Shattering, painful write; war is hell. However, I would like to thank all of the brave men and women who have served their nations proudly. Their sacrifice is not in vain.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Very sad Felix for everyone. War has taken more lives of late...and it's all about greed. I'm so damned tired of all of it. There isn't any way anyone can start over and anyway anyone will ever learn from the past. They say history is the best teacher but not in wars case.
