Lingering Hopes


 


I linger on the doorstep of the promise of the day


Patiently await the morning as the nighttime fades away


Hoping for a promise of the love that we once knew


Wishing on a falling star that you will want that too


I stroll along a boulevard of memories grown cold


Whistling familiar love songs that now are growing old


My empty heart reach out for you to grasp but thinning air


When did time steal you away and leave me waiting here


I linger on the doorstep of the promise of the day….

I like how you began and ended this poem
it gave it a fairy tale quality......
