She sells sea shells down by the sea side... old nursery rhyme or somthing was playing in my head when I wrote this...

Poem Artwork

The Currency of Shells

Waves croon sad songs of loss

Wash my face with mists of brine

Mix freely with the salty tears

That no reason can define

Kneel in the early moonlight

Wet sand against bare skin

I pick up a pearl white memory

As I wonder where she's been

Seashells were our currency

When love used to draw us here

Trading sea treasures for kisses

Once more I’d love to hold her near

So with my pocket full of treasure

As the ocean sings our lullaby

In dthose dreams I’ll  still trade seashells

In those dreams I’ll never cry!

Yes I remember that little Rhyme, used to have trouble getting my tongue around that one... :)

Memories and dreams of precious things, of times when all was well and the world was at peace, and happiness reigned..
Its nice to reflect on these things, helps us get through the mire of life we are confronted with these days.

Love the imagery. I could actually hear the sound of the ocean from the sea shells.

This poem is as soothing as the sound of waves lapping the shore, quieting both body and soul. When I was a child, my family had a beach house and I would spend my early mornings walking along the shore, at low tide, collecting beautiful shells; they were indeed my treasures.
Take care,
Sherry
